Collision

Church of the Apostles places a high value on creativity and the arts. We are delighted to share a poem by one of our newest members, Debra Roberts, written during a worship service on Easter 2001. Debra and her husband Tom are a wonderful addition to our faith community!

Collision

My two worlds – they intersect

Upon the cross where Jesus hung

Where God’s Right

And Human Wrongs

Collide

Where Death and Hope abide

Where Pain and Prayer reside

The real breakpoint in life

Religious life and secular

Ordinary and spectacular

One of faith and piety

One mundane and full of duty

Six days I lean heavily

Upon the One that presses me

How much does it mold me?

Dare I shape it as Thou wilt?

The Seventh day my pinnacle

To take me from the cynical

And dissolute ambitions

Of the volume of my life

And in that Day my Refuge seek

Where I will sit to take a peek

Inside the lives of those

who’ve learned to make this One their stay

My two lives – they intersect

Upon the cross where Jesus hung

Where God’s Right

And Human Wrongs

Collide

Where Death and Hope abide

Where Pain and Prayer reside

The real breakpoint in life
